--- ENGLISH TRANSLATION ---

People who had to flee Ukraine due to the war have been granted a humanitarian residence permit for temporary protection according to § 24 of the Residence Act. The basis for these residence permits is the implementing decision of the EU Council for the application of Directive 2001/55/EC. This decision expires on March 4, 2024. Currently, it is not yet clear whether this decision will be extended. It is also possible that your residence permit will be extended easily and without an appointment at an immigration office through a regulation of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for Homeland. The State Office for Immigration will inform you as soon as the future legal regulations are determined.

If you possess such a residence permit, you can apply for an extension online. Your residence permit will remain valid until further notice, even if the expiration date has passed.

Procedure:

1. Submit the online application "Extend Temporary Protection Residence Permit for Refugees from Ukraine."

You will receive a PDF document as confirmation of your application. This document certifies that your residence permit in the federal territory will remain valid beyond the previous expiration date. Your permission to work will also remain valid.

Please save this document and, if possible, print it.

2. After submitting your online application, you will receive information about the further procedure in a timely manner before March 4, 2024. Due to the very high number of refugees from Ukraine, it may take some time for you to be informed.

Either your residence permit will be automatically extended,

or you will receive an appointment for an in-person visit to the State Office for Immigration.

3. If you receive an appointment for an in-person visit, please bring all required documents to the appointment.

* Please exclusively use our online application for your request. Applications received by our authority through other means (e.g., by mail, email, or fax) may be processed with lower priority for organizational reasons. If you have already booked an appointment for extension, please cancel it after submitting your online application.
